Tables are basically &#8220;owned&#8221; by various celebs and big machers and you need to know one of them to score an invite. This, and the jarred Rao&#8217;s pasta sauces, are as close as I&#8217;ve ever gotten.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>#TBT to last week\u2019s Margot&#8217;s Pizza pop-up, the first Monday night event in our current format.<\/p>\n<p>This is a WAY-WAY-WAY-off-the-menu pizza. Somehow Matt Hyland, chef-owner at Emily (Margot\u2019s host\/venue), got ahold of a quart container of meatballs from Rao\u2019s. Yes, that Rao\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After service, we\u2019re making a family pie with some of these on it,\u201d he said. \u201cThe ultimate one-and-done special pizza.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Twist my arm, why don\u2019tcha. I even forgot my own grousing on the (now defunct) Slice blog about \u201cmeatball pizzas\u201d where the meat<em>ball<\/em> is broken apart are effectively just meat<em>chunk<\/em> pizzas. ?\u200d\u2642\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>The finished pizza wasn\u2019t bad, but it needed something more than just the meatballs, which we all initially thought would carry the pie on their own.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever want to know what driving a Bugatti down the block to go pick up milk tastes like, this is probably it. Better luck next time.
